Topic: Al Yeganeh

{JESS3} - seinfeld and wutang clan.
About a decade ago, Al Yeganeh, a surly New York City soup seller, gained global fame when he inspired a character on the hit TV sitcom "Seinfeld." Now, the notorious chef -- known for chewing out some customers and refusing to serve others -- is taking his own show on the road.
Yeganeh has received some 250 e-mails from people eager to sell his soup in cities as disparate as Ashville, N.C., Roseville, Calif., and Boston.
The soups, both at the franchised outlets and in supermarkets, will be sold under the name "The Original Soup Man," and adorned with an image of Mr.

Augusta Georgia: features@ugusta: Master of the broth 1/6/98
Al Yeganeh, a New York soup chef, has been parodied on Seinfeld as the ``Soup Nazi,'' although Jerry Seinfeld later apologized.
Yeganeh searches out fabulous soup ingredients, some of which he imports from overseas.
Those who try to engage the soupmeister in idle chit-chat are unlikely to receive the extra gifts that round out your soup ($6 and up) to make it a complete meal: superb bread, a garnish of greens, gorgeous fruit and a chocolate.

Real-life Kramer takes on actual Soup Nazi
The combatants: Kenny Kramer, the former neighbor of "Seinfeld'' co-creator Larry David, and Al Yeganeh, the model for a sharp-tongued soup chef in a classic "Seinfeld'' episode.
When Kramer arrived on 55th Street early Thursday, his black and white sign was obscured by a coat of red paint.
The customers - there were more than 50 queued up amid snow flurries and temperatures in the mid-30s - seemed amused by the spectacle.

CANOE -- JAM! Television: Seinfeld's 'Soup Nazi' coming to Canada
Al Yeganeh stirs a batch of soup at his Soup Kitchen International restaurant in New York.
"Al's magic combination" comprises soup, French bread, a bowl of fresh fruit and a piece of chocolate.
All soups are made by Yeganeh, flash frozen and transported to outlets to heat and serve.

 April 9, 1998: `Seinfeld' ruined poor guy's life
Yeganeh says he was shocked by the quality of the mass-produced soups.
The soups are prepared by cooks in Home Shopping Network kitchens, using Yeganeh's super-secret recipes.
Worse, it ruined a pot of lobster bisque.

Taste: -Soup for you! And how
Yeganeh, the curt Manhattan soup chef branded "The Soup Nazi,'' in the television comedy series "Seinfeld," does not live comfortably with his depiction.
Extended cooking will alter the flavor and texture of the soups, which are prepared and flash-frozen at Yeganeh's master kitchen in Massachusetts.
Season to taste with salt, pepper, Tabasco and lemon.

Sound Opinions Message Board > Soup Nazi coming to a mall near you
Yeganeh and his chefs have been working with experts at Rutgers University's Food Manufacturing Technology Facility in Piscataway, adapting his closely guarded recipes to preserve taste and freshness when making huge quantities of soup and shipping it across the continent, according to operations manager Linda Gavin.
They'll be "strongly discouraged" from mentioning the "Soup Nazi" or comedian Jerry Seinfeld, whom chef Al Yeganeh claims he made famous.
For $10, customers will get eight ounces of soup _ from seafood bisque and chili to cold and exotic soups _ plus bread, a beverage, fresh fruit and a small chocolate.

Yeganeh was standing behind pots of steaming soup, serving a customer.
But the " International Soup Kitchen " was more like the size of an average take-out sandwich joint found in Iranian cities.
The first thing I noticed was Yeganeh's snow-white chef outfit.

Al Yeganeh, the grumpy New York chef famously clowned in "Seinfeld" episodes, is bringing the same no-nonsense rules from his shop on W. 55th St. to 1,000 soup kiosks and storefronts across North America.
Al Yeganeh, the grumpy New York chef famously parodied in 'Seinfeld' episodes, looks fierce even in photos, in front of his W. 55th St. shop.
They also better come prepared with up to $135,000 in franchise costs.

The immensely popular soup stand can rarely be found without a long line of customers, and Yeganeh makes so much money from his soups that he is able to close the stand on weekends and take the summer months off for vacation.
"There are still lines here all the time," Yeganeh says.

 Salad days
Every summer, Al Yeganeh, the "Soup Man," shuts down his West 55th Street shop and heads to Europe to learn new recipes.
In the meantime, competing shops and stands are preparing pots of cold broth to float us through the hot months, keeping soup on our minds—and in our mouths.
Soup Nutsy is the most blatant of the Yeganeh copycats, playing off the Seinfeld "Soup Nazi" episode and featuring a mean-little-chef logo.

 The Happy Husband: 12/28/2003 - 01/03/2004
His place is called Al's Soup Kitchen International and it's on 55th St. and 8th Ave.
Al himself is pretty gruff and unsmiling, but I didn't see him refuse soup to anyone.
The restaurant itself differs from the place as portrayed on Seinfeld in that no customers are allowed inside, since the entire inside is pretty much occupied by the kitchen.

 Change Agent - Issue 48
At the same time that hundreds of hungry people are waiting to get a unique bowl of soup from Al, millions are eating lunch at the most ubiquitous restaurant in the world: McDonald's.
The very best soup in the entire world is served by Al Yeganeh, owner of Soup Kitchen International on West 55th Street in New York.
Slandered in a notorious Seinfeld parody, Al's restaurant is busier than ever.

Here is his cream of sweet potato soup (click on link below).
Well, that character was based on a real person named Al Yeganeh, soup artisan extraordinaire (note: not really a "nazi", that was the nickname he was given because of his personality when it comes to allowing people into contact with his soups!).
Some of you are no doubt familiar w/the character of "The Soup Nazi" (see important note!) on the now defunct sit-com, Seinfeld.
