British cuisine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sunday roast consisting of roast beef, roast potatoes, vegetables and yorkshire pudding
For centuries, the British market was the main customer of sweet wines like sherry, Port wine, and Madeira wine.
British cuisine still suffers from a relatively poor international reputation, being typically represented by dishes consisting of simply cooked meats and vegetables (so called "meat and veg") that need to be accompanied by bottled sauces or other condiments after cooking to make them more palatable.

Regional Cuisine From Around The World
British cuisine is a blending of the practical with the nutritious.
Like many other Italian regional cuisines, Sardinia's regional taste is often a surprise for a palette that is expecting red sauce and parmesan cheese to be the beginning and end of traditional Italian cooking.
Stews are very popular in the regional cuisine of Sardinia, and even meat and poultry dishes are served in rich cooking sauces that could just as easily be served as soups.

eG Forums -> Where British Cuisine went wrong
From reading these recipes, what is internationally known as British cuisine seems to be emerging in the 1920’s after the war and it is a necessity of a shortage of ingredients and the chefs being of British instead of French origin.
It is only in the decade of 1920-1930 that British cooks are relied on, and the cuisine that is internationally known as British cuisine today comes from those chefs from that era.
Of course one doesn't believe this if they believe that the boiled cuisine and baked cuisine of the 1920-1930 era is top quality cooking.

BBC News TALKING POINT Is British cuisine inadequate?
Traditional British cooking, I hesitate to use the word cuisine, is invariably unappealing, unimaginative and unappetising by comparison, with perhaps the exception of Belarus.
Traditional British tuck such as fish and chips, steak and kidney pie and spotted dick and custard are not living up to the French standards of cuisine.
I think that British cuisine can be far superior to French, and vice-versa: it all depends on the quality of products used, and the chef doing the cooking.

Blumenthal, who only began cooking for a living in 1995, bases his cuisine on 3,500 "essences", kept in garden sheds behind his restaurant, which are chemical versions of the methods he uses to pair tastes in food.
Instead, diners are more likely to be swallowing basil blancmange, snail porridge, sardine on toast sorbet, white chocolate and caviar buttons or salmon and liquorice.
