Arcansiel are one of the better recent Italian bands to contribute to the progressive rock scene, along with Eris Pluvia, etc. While most of these bands are seventies-revivalists, Arcansiel has opted for a more neo-progressive sound very much in the spirit of early Marillion and prime-period IQ.
While Space Rock is not exactly my thing, I was delighted to hear elements of some traditional prog rock groups.

A History of Italian Rock Music
A sub-genre of Italian prog-rock was Italian jazz-rock, well represented by albums such as Osanna's jazz-rock nightmare Palepoli (1973), Arti & Mestieri's chamber jazz-rock workout Tilt (1974), and Perigeo's Genealogia (1974).
CCCP (2) left behind the stereotypes of punk-rock, and achieved a genre-defying convergence of hardcore, militant rock, ethnic folk, industrial music and chamber music while delivering a bleak vision of eternal angst.
the Italian dynasty of singer-songwriters ("cantautori") was continued at the turn of the century by Ivano Fossati, with Discanto (1990), Carmen Consoli with Confusa e Felice (1997), Cristina Dona`'s Nido (1999), and Vinicio Capossela's Canzoni a Manovella (2000).

Taken in context with the rest of the Italian scene, Goblin were also unusual in that they managed to grow and develop during the late 70's when most other Italian bands were forced to compromise by record companies that were no longer interested in progressive rock.
A constantly surprising album really, in that every track is different, it ventures from classical rock through to jazz-fusion, and many places in between, including the highly experimental introduction to Wild Session with its weird wailing voices, musical box chimes and generally spooky atmosphere.

 Mastica Album Reviews
Anyway, what I'm getting' at… Mastica is an Italian band that's deeply rooted in the Anglo-Saxon rock tradition, yet their songs are (with the exception of "I Need You," which has the title words recurring in the chorus) entirely in Italian.
Like 7 zillion other bands, Mastica play a kind or retro-rock (even though they call it "acid rock" themselves) that's indebted to swirling fuzz-driven garage rock, British Invasion and Nuggets-psychedelica, but it's probably their unmistakeable Italian identity that sets them apart and may save them from becoming the next boring genre act.
Those are about the only Belgian rock bands I can think of that sing in their own language and get away with it.

One of the strangest Italians bands of the era was Flea, who seem to have devoted their entire existence to avoiding the production of progressive rock, yet still may be mentioned in the same breath with the classic bands.

New Trolls were an Italian band whose output has been quite inconsistent, in that they have released hard rock, pop ballads, and progressive rock works.

A Guide to the Progressive Rock Genres
Japan (80s) - The Japanese school of symphonic rock was largely influenced by a revived interest in British and Italian symphonic rock of the 70s.
At this point, further elucidation on the rock genre is virtually impossible without bringing attention to where rock becomes much more than rock and begins its interplay with the rest of the field of music to a level where the strong rock element becomes more and more diluted with its hybridization.
Space rock is largely an extension of psychedelic rock (and/or krautrock) and shares many of its similar mind-altering and atmospheric features.
