Protoferraio And The Island Of Elba
The natural harbour of Longone is one of the finest and safest in Italy.
Soon the finely-placed lighthouse of Portoferraio comes in sight, and, rounding the point, one of the finest sights in all Italy breaks upon our astonished view—the vast, deep inland bay of Portoferraio, which might comfortably ensconce in securest shelter the whole of Her Majesty's great navy.
In Portoferraio itself, Napoleon's town house, known as I Mulini—insignificant enough that also—still exists, and is now occupied by the Genio Militare.

Portoferraio is a small town on the edge of the homonymous harbour.
You have to visit the archeological museum and the Napoleon house; and you should taste the typical "schiaccia briaca" (whose name, which we could translate as "drunk cake", tell us a lot about the sanguinous character of Elba people) and the "cecina", a salt cake with chickpea flour.
It is the largest and capital city of Elba, although its typical buildings grow on the slopes of a tiny hill surrounded on three sides by the sea.

A2Z Languages - Italy - Country Guide: Italian Cuisine
A chief characteristic of Italian cuisine is the texture and color of the food.
Italy’s main staples are just that, inexpensive yet tasty, rice and spaghetti can make a filling dish to which only a smidgen of the more costly ingredients, such as fish can be added.
To those who have never experienced an authentic Italian cuisine, the food of Italy means pizza, spaghetti, ravioli, pasta parmigiana, and minestrone—the plates that are most commonly served in restaurants and homes in other parts of the world.

 Rustico: Regional Italian Cuisine
I explore the amazing diversity of Italian regional cuisines, explain how they came to be, and provide you with flavorful, easy-to-make heirloom recipes, as well as information about regional specialties, places to visit in Italy, and not-to-be-missed experiences.
As I was researching "Rustico: Regional Italian Country Cooking" I visited every region of Italy, from the well-traveled country roads of the Chianti wine zone in Tuscany to the deserted peaks of Monte Pollino in Basilicata.
And what I concluded is that there is no such thing as "Italian cuisine:" rather, Italy is made up of many distinct cuisines, each with its own flavor palette and preferred cooking techniques, which can be roughly grouped within regional boundaries.
