 The La Clape Vintage
The La Clape wine-growers prefer the syrah, the mourvdre and the grenache for their reds, le bourboulenc (malvoisie) for the whites, and knowing that the future lies in wines of quality and highly typical wines the appelation d'origine zone was defined and created in 1985.
The area of production of this AOC extends over 900 hectares (2 224 acres) and includes 40 winegrowers, 36 individual cellars and 4 cooperative cellars, a large number of which can be visited.

In today’s wine world, however, I’d be cautious about planning to age most wines for a long time.
Those would be primarily Syrah and Viognier — the current darlings of many wine buffs — as well as Grenache, Mourvèdre, Roussanne and Marsanne.
Interestingly enough, in that interview 18 years ago, he suggested Washington ought to experiment with “Rhônish grapes” because he thought they would have tremendous potential here.
