New Zealand's The Dominion Post newspaper reported that Greame Hart, owner of New Zealand Dairy Foods and reportedly New Zealand's richest man, was sounding out potential buyers for the dairy foods group, which owns popular brands like Anchor, Fresh N' Fruity and Fernleaf.
San Miguel said it had "given consideration" to buying New Zealand Dairy Foods, which operates in the milk, cheese and yoghurt markets in New Zealand.

Financial Review: San Miguel eyes Fonterra's NZ rival
Fonterra owns a stable of consumer brands in the dairy chiller, and processes about half of the dairy products sold in New Zealand's supermarkets.
And if Mr Hart was able to sell NZ Dairy Foods for more than $NZ700 million, he would potentially make $NZ400 million on the deal, after buying NZDF relatively cheaply in June 2002.
But whether a specific bid from San Miguel for NZ Dairy Foods materialises will depend heavily on the outcome of its bid on the other side of the Tasman for National Foods.
