 Donburi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Traditional Japanese donburi include oyakodon (simmered chicken, egg and onion on rice), katsudon (breaded deep-fried pork cutlets (tonkatsu), onion, and egg on rice), tendon (天丼) (tempura shrimp and vegetables on rice), and gyudon (beef and onion on rice).
For oyakodon, Tsuji (1980) recommends dashi flavored with light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, and sugar.
For gyudon, Tsuji recommends water flavored with dark soy sauce and mirin.

Then again, Beef Bowl is sometimes labeled as Donburi here as well.

We found a shop and argued over what to eat for a while (complicated by my mom's slight squeamishness of some Asian food, my vegetarianism, and the fact that neither of us could read the menu).
Mine was basically cold noodles with dried seaweed on the top, and I honestly think it was the BEST thing I ate in Japan.

I made Oyakodon tonight, a Japanese dish that has a chicken and egg mixture on top of a bowl of rice (oya means parent and ko means child, pretty clever huh?).
It also has a lot of onions in it, which I have never been very fond of cooking with, because I start to cry at the very sight of an onion.They don't seem to bother Sang, probably becasue she wears contacts, which got me thinking.

After unpacking and taking photographs for the Alumni magazine, Richard took us to lunch and introduced us to the various "Don" dishes, such as Oyakodon and Katsudon.
These became Tony's favorite Japanese food (and something I would like to find at a Japanese restaurant in Boston).
Of course for us the best thing about Shizuoka was that we had a friend there who spoke Japanese!
