Newport - Rogue Ales Public House
Rogue's brews also take several flavor detours, including some fruit beers: Rogue-n-berry, flavored with marionberry extract, is a sort of house standard, but visits have also uncovered a sweetish cherry ale and a tart ale flavored with chitose, a type of berry grown in Japan.
The actual Rogue Brewery (of the Oregon Brewing Co.) is located some distance away from the Newport brewpub; from this brewery, bottled Rogue ales are also shipped far and wide, and there are even versions shipped to Japan.

Rogue Ales of Oregon, on StarChefs
Rogue feels that small-scale breweries, brewing for consumers who like beer, can produce quality products without impinging on the market-share of the big producers as their consumers are looking for a different sort of product in the first place.
Rogue jealously guards the details on their yeast, but claims one of Pacman’s features is that it devours a great deal of sugar during fermentation, but tends to leave behind complex sugars, which adds to the richness of their beers.
Together with chef Masaharu Morimoto, Rogue has created three beers in their Signature Series: a Hazelnut Ale, an Imperial Pilsner, and a Soba ale, the latter brewed with roasted buckwheat.

rogue arguably has the best beer in the west, so i'll start with that: "mexicali rogue" is a spicy ale-style beer with actual chipotle in it.
the food is pretty standard for oldtown newport--except that everything has rogue beer in the recipe.
"dead guy ale" is the standard for the locals--it's darker than your average beer.

Rogue Ales Public House - June 10, 2005
My husband and I decided to sample a cup of beer cheese soup ($3.75) made with Rogue’s Dead Guy Ale and served with a crusty slice of bread baked on site with Hazelnut Brown Nectar Ale.
While the menu touts St. Rogue Red — a roasty, copper-colored brew with a bright hop finish — as the perfect match for this meat, my partner went with Rogue’s Brutal Bitter, an intense golden brew with loads of hoppiness.
These briny bits were plump, firm and bathed in a tangy cocktail sauce spiked with chipotle ale.

beercook.com :: Fred Eckhardt at Rogue's Flanders Pub - a beer and cheese tasting
More than 100 beer lovers packed the Rogue Flanders Pub for a tasting of West coast specialty cheeses, paired with Rogue ales and other brews.
Normally, I'm not a fan of wheat ales (not malty enough for me), but the Half-a-weizen, partnered with a sprightly Juniper Grove Feta cheese, was delicious.
Yet nothing prepared me for the sumptuous nut flavor of the Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar, which made a sensuous partner with the Sally Jackson Chestnut semi-soft cheeses -- all three of them rendered with different milks (sheep, goat and cow).

Amber ales done in the Belgian Abbey style, which is stronger, thicker and fruitier, go wonderfully with medium dark chocolates with fruit, especially strawberries.

 Rogue Ales "Dead Guy Ale"
As the ale warms, this bittersweet flavor complex, is enhanced with the emergence of a softer textured malt sweetness and a sneeky, warming alcohol prescence.
The ale is intensely flavorful with an initial surge of honey sweetness and a mouth-puckering grapefruit tartness, followed by a long wonderfully wicked, bitter finish.
The balance of the grapefruit tartness/hops bitterness with the honey/malt sweetness in the ale is reminiscent of a fine Sauvignon Blanc wine.

A traditional way of serving English-style ales, hand pumped beer is served at cellar temperature with not as much carbonation as American beers, due to it not being force carbonated.
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, the local Two Brothers, Bass, Guinness, Newcastle Brown Ale, Beck's, Amstel Light, DAB lager (from Germany), and Franziskaner Weiss (also from Germany.) They also have your typical Bud, Miller and Coors taps for the beer drinker who swims with the most of the fish.
This highly-hopped, citrusy pale ale, was properly served by the folks who maintain the cask lines (hey, Brewin' Beagle: nice job!), and this quaffable brew sated my thirst and worked up my hunger sufficiently to enjoy an appetizer of chipotle cheese poppers, and a shrimp 'Po boy.

He changed the beer's name to something more Japanese: It is custom in Japan to name beers after mythical animals or real creatures held in high esteem for their particular mystic, such as the fox.
